Eduardo Khawam Presents Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas with The 2016 Metropolitan Fashion Excellence Award

LOS ANGELES, OCT. 1, 2016 – Metropolitan Fashion Week (MFW) announced winners of its inaugural METROPOLITAN FASHION AWARDS honoring outstanding achievements in fashion and costume design in motion pictures, television, and live performance during the 4th Annual Metropolitan Fashion Week’s Closing Gala & Fashion Awards at Warner Bros. Studios. The event, hosted by Metropolitan Fashion Week producer Eduardo Khawam, was attended by over 400 industry VIP’s, celebrities, costume and fashion designers. Award presenters included actress, singer and former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, actor Antonio Jaramillo (Shades of Blue) and reporter-producer Nitzia Chama(Univision’s Despierata America).
In a special presentation, Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas received the 2016 Metropolitan Fashion Excellence Award for their outstanding work in costume design, presented by MFW founder Eduardo Khawam. For the first time, Cirque du Soleil debuted costumes from all six of its Las Vegas shows on one runway. Performers from The Beatles LOVE, KÀ, Michael Jackson ONE, Mystère, O by Cirque du Soleil and Zumanity strutted the runway in costumes from their respective shows.
Hollywood legends Betty White, Ed Asner, Loretta Swit and Bob Barker were also honored with the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award for Animal Conservation, presented by MFW sponsor The GES Africa Conservation Fund, for their passion and commitment to animals and endangered species. Loretta Swit accepted the award in person on behalf of her fellow nominees. Ed Asner’s award was accepted by his son Matt Asner. Winners in the film and television categories included Captain America: Civil War (Costume Designer of the Year – Motion Pictures); American Horror Story: Hotel (Costume Designer of the Year – Televison); The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story (Outstanding Ensemble- Make-Up Artists and Hair Styling); and RuPaul’s Drag Race (Fashion Program of the Year); and Thierry Mugler (Costume Designer of the Year for Zumanity by Cirque du Soleil). Winners also included Micaela Erlanger (Celebrity Stylist of the Year) and Dulce Candy (Fashion Blogger of the Year). Fashion Commentator of the Year was a tie with The Real’s Jeannie Mai and Univision’s Jomari Goyso both receiving honors.

In addition to the Awards, the Gala showcased a unique, exclusive runway show featuring over 150 one-of-a-kind avant-garde costumes and couture evening gowns, created by national and international celebrity costume and fashion designers including costume designers Ricardo Soltero, Inoe Vargas and Shokra; international fashion designers Erick Bendaña and OTT; men’s styles by Suitfellas; costumes by Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas; swimwear by Adicora Swimwear & LASC; and couture hat designer Arturo Rios. Live entertainment was provided by Italian ethno band Domo Emigrantes.
The show is produced and directed by Eduardo Khawam, fashion expert, producer and TV personality for Telemundo, Univisión and the CW. Executive Producer is Paul Jaramillo.
